Lower East Side & Downtown Manhattan

Walk in Immigrants' Footsteps

We will walk in the historically Jewish neighborhood near Houston Street, Ludlow Street down to Delancy St. and beyond to Canal Street, and end in Columbus Park near the statue of Sun Yat Sen in Chinatown.

Meeting Place: Near the F Train Second Avenue stop, at Chrystie and Houston Streets.  (Note: 2nd Ave. ends at Houston Street)

We will begin at the corner of a park dedicated to the only mother who saw her son inaugurated as president three times (can you guess?!) and explore the neighborhood where many eastern Europeans settled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and feel their presence still as we explore small shops and, possibly, taste their foods on our journey down to Chinatown - still an immigrant's home.

The Street Teacher offers many other tours - and not all necessarily by foot. He and his associates also can hire a car and driver for a far ranging private tour, or step onto your coach and give an exciting tour of the city for your group - large or small.
